This page is our summary of what Spire publishes, in our own words. It is not Spire’s requirement list and it can be out of date. PrequalReady is not affiliated with Spire, ISNetworld or any other network or operator.
1. Which network Spire uses
ISNetworld (ISN). Spire’s Doing Business With Spire page links its Supplier Requirements and Expectations. That document says contractors engaged in services Spire deems to be at an elevated risk may be required to hold an ISNetworld subscription and keep a passing grade of C or better, based on Spire’s criteria. Spire uses ISNetworld to verify contractor safety management programs and safety statistics.
2. What the sources say contractors must do
- Subscribe before the agreement, if asked. Contractors that are not ISN subscribers may be asked to become one before an agreement is signed.
- Keep a C or better. The passing grade is C or better, measured on Spire’s own criteria. Our guide ISNetworld grades explained covers what ISN itself publishes about grades.
- Insurance through myCOI. Spire uses myCOI as its main certificate of insurance tracking partner, with mandatory periodic verification that suppliers meet the insurance requirements in their agreement. It says myCOI can work with your insurance agent or broker.
- Cyber security questionnaires. All suppliers are subject to Spire’s cyber security questionnaires, with initial and periodic risk assessments, usually through a CyberGRX questionnaire.
- Supplier data. New suppliers register through Supplier Connect once invited, and suppliers notify Spire of changes to their supplier data within 10 business days.
For construction vendors that want to bid on ISRS-eligible work in Missouri, Spire’s ISRS pre-qualification requirements page adds, among other conditions:
- ISNetworld: be a current subscriber, or be willing to become one, and keep a grade of C or higher while working for Spire.
- Operator qualification: all field service employees operator qualified through Energy World Net for every task in the work to be bid.
- Insurance: Missouri-admitted insurers rated A- or better by A.M. Best with a financial strength rating of XII or better, and general liability of $25 million per occurrence and $50 million aggregate, automobile liability of $10 million per occurrence and $20 million aggregate, statutory workers’ compensation, and pollution of $10 million per occurrence and $15 million aggregate. Our certificate of insurance guide explains how such requirements are checked.
- Experience and standing: at least seven years of natural gas grid replacement, distribution or transmission pipeline experience, or equivalent utility construction experience, a credit rating of BBB- or better from S&P or Fitch or Baa3 or better from Moody’s, a current gas main and service line agreement with Spire or willingness to sign one, and background checks for business principals.
3. The yearly dates that apply
The ISNetworld renewal checklist explains the network and OSHA dates and shows their sources.
- On or before the anniversary of your ISN activation date: pay the annual fee to renew ISNetworld (ISN User Agreement).
- February 1, until April 30: post the OSHA 300A summary, if you must keep OSHA injury and illness records (OSHA 29 CFR 1904.32).
- March 2: submit the 300A to OSHA online, if your establishment is covered (OSHA 29 CFR 1904.41).
- Within 10 business days of a change: update your supplier data in Supplier Connect.
- Your own dates for this client: the expiry of each insurance policy that myCOI verifies, and your workers’ operator qualifications.
4. Confirm with Spire
Requirements change. Neither web page shows a date, and the supplier requirements document shows none in its text; its address suggests it was posted in September 2022. Before you rely on any item here, confirm it with Spire and in your ISNetworld account.
Other operators: NiSource, PG&E, Kinder Morgan, Ovintiv, or all operator pages.

6. Keep it in one workspace
PrequalReady is a workspace that keeps each hiring client’s requirements, your documents and every expiry date in one place, and emails reminders before your dates. It does not log in to ISNetworld for you, it does not read your grade, and it does not judge whether your documents are acceptable. It is free during early access. Keeping many contractors qualified? Start with the free checklist: the items hiring clients most often ask for, with their sources and the yearly dates, and Spire already filled in. No account; nothing is sent anywhere.
